Marie doesn’t need a complication like Horse. The massive, tattooed, badass biker who shows up at her brother’s house one afternoon doesn’t agree. He wants Marie on his bike and in his bed. Now.

But Marie just left her abusive jerk of an ex-husband and she’s not looking for a new man. Especially one like Horse—she doesn’t know his real name or where he lives, she’s ninety percent certain he’s a criminal and that the “business” he talks with her brother isn’t website design. She needs him out of her life, which would be a snap if he’d just stop giving her mind-blowing orgasms.

Horse is part of the Reapers Motorcycle Club, and when he wants something, he takes it. What he wants is Marie, but she’s not interested in becoming “property of”.

Then her brother steals from the club. Marie can save him by giving Horse what he wants—at home, in public, on his bike… If she’s a very, very good girl, she’ll get lots more of those orgasms only he can offer, and he’ll let her brother live.

Maybe.

A Romantica® contemporary erotic romance from Ellora’s Cave.

Review:

It was right there in the title. Property. Going into this book I knew I had to set aside my women's rights ideals and the beliefs that a woman can be smart. The title along with the cover let's you know that this book is an MC (motorcycle club) and that the women are property. Which seems to be a theme with the MC erotic/romance genre as a whole. It needs to be said that not all MC are gangs. (And I live in Idaho and I know the vast majority are just white bearded, potbellied, wife loving, and sometimes foulmouthed old men.)

So setting aside my own personal prejudices on the matter I did have fun with this title. Marie and Horse have some serious chemistry. When they first met I could feel the burn! The plot was interesting enough with Marie escaping her abusive husband and living with her brother—who was in to some shady stuff. When Horse comes riding in she's not ready to go back to any kind of relationship, especially one with a controlling man. As stated I was enjoying the ride! Then when Horse admits that his friends, himself included, thought she was just another sweetbutt. Or basically a floozy.

Web definition states that sweetbutt is a “club hoochie mama. Another name for a girl who hangs out with the club and is always available for sex.”

After hearing this Marie has every right to be pissed off, and I'd end things there as well. So when her brother does what we all expect and crosses the Reapers, Horse takes it upon himself to make Marie is own. Of course he states that he had tried to woo her and she threw it back at him. The rest is nothing but an abusive relationship. Marie wants him and his big dick. (Yeah, the nickname means that.) It's crazy! I liked the idea of this tough guy romancing Marie to him. Instead he abuses her mentally and emotionally. Marie gets the strength to leave her husband, who had been beating her and emotionally abusing her, to end up at square one. While Horse restrains himself from smacking her (well outside of the bedroom), Marie gets hurt a lot by others because she is Horses woman. (Plus, I do not believe that Horse letting her go to school and “providing” for her counts as love. It’s action!)

The writing is a little off at times, but fits the type of story well. The scenes of Idaho that readers briefly get to see aren't bad. (It's so lovely here so any time someone writes about it brownie points!) The overall story is average, but it's nice that there is a plot to follow all the sex. Heck, the sex doesn't even happen for a while. More brownie points for build up! *fans self* The side characters are interesting and readers get to peek into what's going on with them and their relations. Really a great setup novel for more books.

My issue is how many erotica/romance titles try to use the MC theme as a why to promote abusive relationships. To me that spoils what this novel has to offer. Now, if the author had been going to show how anyone can sink into this type of relationship and mistake it for love, it could have been powerful stuff. Usually I can set aside personal ideals and simply sit back and joy the ride, but not with this one. Don't get me wrong, this book was hot! I enjoyed Horse’s character, he made me laugh. This is a book that will get a wide range of reactions. Lot's of my book friends loved this title, the majority enjoyed it despite flaws, and the few like me couldn't step past certain aspects.

Sexual Content: Graphic Sex, sometimes very demeaning.
