Heart of Obsidian (Psy-Changeling, book 12) by Nalini Singh

heart-of-obsidian

Genre: Paranormal Romance
Edition Reviewed: eBook
Amazon: Paperback | Kindle
Goodreads: Heart of Obsidian (12)

Step into New York Times bestseller Nalini Singh’s explosive and shockingly passionate Psy-Changeling world…

A dangerous, volatile rebel, hands stained bloodred.
A woman whose very existence has been erased.
A love story so dark, it may shatter the world itself.
A deadly price that must be paid.
The day of reckoning is here.

From “the alpha author of paranormal romance” (Booklist) comes the most highly anticipated novel of her career—one that blurs the line between madness and genius, between subjugation and liberation, between the living and the dead.

Review:

A masterpiece.

The funny thing is that I have read some amazing titles out there, but I don't think I've truly ever felt compelled enough to proclaim it a masterpiece. What's more shocking is that I would claim the Psy-Changeling series as one of the top Paranormal Romance series out there. It's definitely in my top favorite series list. Which is saying a lot from wishy-washy me. I never claim top ten lists for books, I simply evade. I don't like to play favorites with all the great books out there. However, Singh has created an amazing world with heart, horror, and redemption. Even the weakest book in the series has yet to fail in moving my emotions.

Heart of Obsidian is probably the strongest book in the series. While my heart will always belong to Clay and Talin of Mine to Possess, Heart of Obsidian has carved out a place in my heart and much like Mine to Possess I'll be rereading it many times over. In fact, the length of this series is never intimidating. It's something to revel in and look forward to especially for rereads. It was a bit of a sad thought to know that we'd be stepping away from DarkRiver and the SnowDancers, being a “Psy book”. Singh never leaves her readers hanging, and of course gives plenty of windows into life in both packs. (Trust me I was squeeing so much.)

This book is the one that fans have been foaming at the mouth fort!! Yes, any faithful Psy-Changeling fan new what was coming. That's the power of Singh. The “spoiler” may have been blown in the beginning books, but everything in Heart of Obsidian was so well delivered. The love and passion. Just . . . there are no words.

What's is Heart of Obsidian takes all of the qualities of Beauty and the Beast (or Beauty and the Psycho), young love, first loves, and damaged people spinning a romance that is beyond what I could have hoped for and now secretly want out of every paranormal romance title I will ever read. (Way to set the bar Signh.) The World building just keeps coming. This is the pivotal moment in the Psy Net. The revolution is here, the horror of it and the clash of ideals is mind blowing. Prejudice, controlling powers and the evils along with it, terrorism, societal civil war, and the threat of world war. This title, no the entire series, does what many authors have longed to put into their stories. A sort of realism that covers all grounds of black and white, bleeding into gray. No longer can “real” authors laugh at romance authors. Great authors (cough, Singh, cough) break genre expectations and create masterpieces. (You know who you are naysayers.)

In the end I implore any reader of any genre to read this book. (Honestly, please read this series.) Every point was a hit in Heart of Obsidian and all paranormal titles after this will be compared to the amazingness of this book. Heck let's be honest, this series is now what I crave that any paranormal romance title could just meet half way. The romance is moving, powerful, and haunting. The Psy-Changeling world never takes a back seat, the world building is always front and center. Actions having causes, and not every action will make everything all HEA when the romance is sealed. Sure the couple may end up together but the impact of it on the world may not be so clean cut. Bravo to Singh! With bated breath I await the next book, with no doubts in my mind.

Sexual Content: Sexual humor and steamy scenes! (So yes, there is sex scenes.)

5/5- Fabulous, a beautiful obsession!
